Rosemount High School gymnastics team puts in persistent effort in the gym during the winter season hoping to become the 2020 1AA section champions.
The Rosemount High School gymnastics team has been working hard by practicing up to 6 days a week for 3 hours each day. The hopes of becoming section champions to qualify for state is very much in reach for the team. They are currently ranked 10th in the state and first in their section with an average team score of 142.4192 per meet. This season they have won all their conference meets except for one, verse Lakeville North, who is currently ranked first in the state.
In previous years the team has come within less than a point of becoming section champions. The Rosemount team has gone to state in 1987, 1993, and 2014. In 2014 they put up a 146.85, nudging out the second-place team who received a 146.05. Head coach Jason Passeri commented on that meet saying, “It was really exciting to go to state that year, hopefully, we can do it again this year too”.
Captain Lauren Foyt has had 3 personal career bests with a 9.3 on vault, 9.3 on bars, 9.525 on floor so far this year. She completed the meet with a total all-around score of 36.675. “It was really exciting to have 3 personal career bests in one night, I’m excited to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.” says Foyt.
Additionally this year, Rosemount has welcomed 8th grader Avery Doman onto the team. Previously coming from TAGS Gymnastics, Avery has contributed an immense amount of talent to the team. Last Tuesday, Doman was ranked in the top 5 for all-around in the metropolitan area. Along with that, Doman was ranked in the top 15 on vault next to Lauren Foyt and Faith Green. Additionally, Doman was ranked first on balance beam with a score of 9.70.
As the gymnastics team prepares for their final conference meet next Tuesday against Prior Lake (happened February 4th) and the section meet, the girls remember what this sport is all about. They keep practices fun, encouraging, and motivating by listening to their favorite music, dancing around, and cheering their teammates on. The section meet will be held on February 14th 2020, at Century High School in Rochester, Minnesota. The team winner will advance to state on February 21st through 22nd at the Roy Wilkins Auditorium.
