The Rosemount Irish Girls Hockey Team is headed to state at the Xcel Energy Center this Thursday, February 22nd. After upsetting Lakeville North, the #1 seed in section 3AA, the girls went on to defeat the #3 seed Apple Valley Eagles 6-1 to secure their spot in the State Tournament. Freshman Taylor Krieg led the Irish in goals during the section finals game with a hat trick as Junior Annalee Holzer was close behind scoring two goals. This will be the second year in a row that the Irish girls hockey team has advanced to state as they defeated Cretin-Derham Hall last year in a close section finals game that ended in a score of 3-2.
Playing against the Andover Huskies at the State Quarterfinals will be tough as Andover is ranked third in the state in class AA, and have won state twice in the past four years. Andover has an incredible record of 21-4 this hockey season as the Irish have a solid record of 13-7. Junior D1 commit Sophie Stramel for the Irish will be going head to head with the Junior D1 commit Hannah Christenson for the Huskies as they try to lead their team to the state semifinals.
Rosemount will be providing fan buses to transport students from the high school to the xcel and back. Students must sign a permission slip excusing them from school to be eligible to go. If unable to attend, you can stream the games on Channel 45 or the KSTP app.
