The Rosemount High School Speech Team had a great start to the season, winning small team sweepstakes at the Chanhassen Invitational Speech Tournament. Spirits were high on Saturday night, after the Rosemount High School Speech Team celebrated not only their individual wins, but their Small Team Sweepstakes award. This is awarded to a school that earns the most points in the final round, with 30 or less entries into the tournament. The 10th annual Chanhassen Invitational Tournament was attended by many schools, including our district competitors Apple Valley, Eastview, and Eagan.
Our individual winners were; Alexis Johnson (4th place in Dramatic Interpretation), Aj Tabura (2nd place in Impromptu and 4th place in Oratory), Tanvi Adige (6th place in Next-in Impromptu and 5th in Next-in Creative Interpretation) and Lauren Sanday (2nd in Novice division Poetry). Carol Sylvester, head coach of the Rosemount High School Speech Team, was very pleased with this strong start. “We won a team trophy, and everyone participated in that team trophy and helping to earn it.”
The team captains were also extremely pleased with the results of this past weekend. Aj Tabura, senior captain, is starting his last season as a highschool competitor. After 4 years on the team, this is a bittersweet season. “To start out on such a strong note like this really pulls up the morale for the entire team.” This team really means a lot to the captains. After a couple of years of downturn in team morale, being able to help revitalize this team is extremely rewarding. Discussing his work as a captain, Aj Tabura stated “All of the captains have put in so much work. We are able to hype up the team so that they believe in themselves. At the end of the day, it was all worth it. I couldn’t be more proud of this team”. This season is proving to be promising, and the captains, coaches, and parents can’t wait to see it progress.
