If you haven’t kept up with the Irish Gazette staff news, we recently received a mysterious PR package from Warner Records. Our overlord Hokkanen thought some of the senior editors applied for a scholarship under the Irish Gazette, and this was the fruit of our efforts. When we told him that we had not done this, he was shocked, and pulled out the mysterious package.
Upon the reception of this mysterious package, we were entranced and utterly complexed. “What is this suspicious looking box?” we wondered. “Maybe a bomb..?” Hokkanen replied, slowly backing away, ready to sacrifice any and all students currently present in the room. The second we opened the package, however, our racing minds were put to rest.
Approximately 300 calendars and bookmarks with a picture of singer Benson Boone were revealed as the contents of this package. Immediately, we were confused as to why this package made its way to Rosemount High School of all places, but also who this individual happened to be. It was then that Keertana pointed out how this exact package was delivered to another school, and their newspaper organization (shout out DGNOmega on Tik Tok), which they had posted about two days before we opened ours.
So no, we weren’t noticed by a popular Tik Tok artist (darn!) or his label, but only Teresa Ensenant of MOXIE with her four followers on LinkedIn (very normal for the director of an organization), who is just as cool.
21 year-old Benson Boone started posting his pop-music videos to Tik Tok in 2021, and soon after auditioned for American Idol that same year. Boone left the competition before Hollywood week, but continued to grow on Tik Tok, reaching 1.7 million followers before releasing any music. His talent was recognized by the Imagine Dragons lead singer, Dan Reynolds who signed him to his label, Night Street Records. In October of 2021, Boone released his debut single “Ghost Town” which charted in 13 countries. He followed the success of “Ghost Town” with “In the Stars” and his most popular song to date, “Beautiful Things” which reached the top in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
Boone has completed his “Pulse Tour” in 2023 and is now set to start his “Fireworks and Rollerblades World Tour” in April. While we here at Irish Gazette don’t consider Canada, America, parts of Europe, New Zealand, and Australia the entire world, we wish Boone the best of luck as he starts the journey to become the next global star.
While Boone might not be everyone’s cup of tea, he isn’t half as bad as some other artists brought up by Tik Tok. For starters, his music doesn’t parody nursery rhymes or the stereotypes of Disney. Additionally, there is no one-sided drama involved in the storylines of his work, and most importantly, he didn’t start as a Tik Toker who decided to start a music career to stay relevant/rival their older sister. It is certainly evident that he is still new to the scene and experimenting with his sound, but he possesses true vocal talent along with keen skills in guitar and piano. While he did rise to fame in Tik Tok, he has the skills to back up his fame, and we can only appreciate that.
Let us know what your thoughts are, and if you would like a free calendar! This article also serves as proof that we were Boone’s day ones if he ever does become a global pop star.
